Children Youth and Women Empowerment Initiative joins readers across the globe in celebrating World Book Day. As an organization passionate about education and youth development, we continually encourage children and young people to sharpen their minds and expand their knowledge through reading.

Over the years, we have donated more than 10,000 textbooks to school libraries across the country and established a free community library in Ikorodu to promote access to books and learning.

In line with this year’s theme, “Read Your Way,” we encourage every child to discover their unique reading style and make reading a fun and meaningful habit.

On Saturday, 28th February 2026, at the ChiYoWo Empowerment Initiative Office in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria, 15 secondary school students were trained in the use of AI tools and content creation at the ChiYoWo AI Bootcamp.

The training, which was organized in collaboration with Trio.io Institute, exposed participants to hands-on practical experience in using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and NotebookLM to create stories, flyers, and video content.

Addressing the participants, Mrs. Tokunbo Ifaturoti, Founder of ChiYoWo, commended the participants for attending the program despite being on midterm break. She encouraged them to pay attention, engage actively with the facilitator, and make the best use of the opportunity to enhance their academic performance. She also emphasized that the skills acquired could empower them to earn income even while still in school.

In her vote of thanks, Zainab Akinsanya expressed her excitement and appreciation to ChiYoWo and Trio.io Institute for organizing the program. She said, “I can now create images, edit pictures, and produce videos. I sincerely appreciate the organizers for making this possible.”

Sofia, in her remarks, said, “I almost missed out on this program, but considering what I have learned today, I am glad I did not miss this opportunity.” Similarly, Silvia expressed her gratitude for learning how to create a YouTube faceless video, edit pictures, and produce animations. She also appreciated ChiYoWo and Trio.io Institute for the opportunity.

To wrap up the event, an aptitude test was conducted, and the top seven students on the grading list were awarded a two-month scholarship to further study advanced AI at Trio.io Institute.

We sincerely appreciate the participating schools, students, teachers, volunteers, and facilitator for making the program a success. We also deeply appreciate Trio.io Institute for the collaboration and look forward to many more impactful partnerships in the future.

At the just-concluded AI Bootcamp Program organized by the Children, Youth and Women Empowerment Initiative in collaboration with Trio.io EdTech Institute, the participants had hands-on training on the creation of images, flyers, animations, and other digital designs. Below are samples of some of the participants’ works.

We joined the world in celebrating the beauty, brilliance, and boundless potential of every child. Children represent the promise of tomorrow, and it is our collective duty to nurture them with love, protection, and opportunity.

We call on parents, schools, communities, and government at all levels to continue building safe, inclusive, and conducive environments where children can learn, explore, and thrive. Every child deserves quality education, proper healthcare, emotional support, and a secure space to grow into confident, and responsible leaders.

As we mark this year’s World Children’s Day, ChiYoWo reaffirms its commitment to empowering young minds and advocating for their rights. Let us continue to work together to ensure that every child’s voice is heard, and every dream is given a chance to flourish.

Today, in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, we hosted a programme for the girl child from Tulip Schools, Ikorodu. The programme, which held at our office complex in Etunrenren, provided the girls with inspiring moments through talks and movies.

The facilitator, Mrs. Rina Mary, speaking on the theme “The Girl I Am, the Change I Lead,” charged the girls to stand up and be great regardless of their background or any challenges they might be facing. She advised them to educate their minds by reading books and engaging in activities that promote growth, while shunning peer pressure and all forms of negative influence. She also encouraged them never to doubt themselves and to remain determined to succeed in all their endeavours.

The programme also featured a movie session. While munching on their popcorn, the girls watched Queen of Katwe, an inspiring film about a young Ugandan girl from the slums who rose to become a national champion through self-belief, education, and determination.

It was not just a talk show; the girls were also treated to delicious jollof rice garnished with fried plantains and beef. It was more than a programme, it was a true celebration of the girl child on her special day.

We appreciate our team of volunteers; Wura, Tamar, and Favour for helping out and making the programme memorable. We also appreciate Michael for his technical support.

At this juncture, we wish a Happy International Day of the Girl Child to all girls around the world, especially those in hard-to-reach communities and challenging backgrounds.

We love you all!

The ChiYoWo Summer Camp Programme, which started on Monday, August 11, 2025, ended yesterday, Thursday, August 14, 2025, with a training session on public speaking. This engaging programme brought together children from three schools in Lagos: Great Tulip School, Master’s Mind Lead School, and Nifty Step School. The children were taught valuable skills on how to gain confidence while speaking in front of an audience, how to engage with the audience, and how to ensure clarity in their speech.

Facilitator training the children on Public Speaking

The training session was designed to empower the children with essential communication skills, boosting their self-assurance and ability to express themselves effectively. Through interactive and engaging activities, the children learned how to articulate their thoughts, overcome stage fright, and convey their message with conviction.

As the event culminated, the school children took turns sharing how much they had learned from the summer camp programme. They expressed their heartfelt appreciation to ChiYoWo for inviting their schools and for providing delicious food, gifts, and certificates. The children were thrilled to have been part of this enriching experience, and their enthusiasm was palpable.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all the schools that released their pupils for the programme and to the teachers who helped coordinate the pupils. Our gratitude also goes to all the ChiYoWo volunteers who worked tirelessly offline and online to make the programme a success. Special thanks to those who made a physical presence and facilitated sessions, contributing to the programme’s impact.

ChiYoWo Team Members

We appreciate your efforts and look forward to more engagement from the ChiYoWo family. The success of this programme is a testament to the power of collaboration and dedication. We are excited to build on this momentum and continue empowering young minds through our initiatives.

Today, at the ongoing ChiYoWo Summer Camp Programme 2025, the school children were exposed to ways of converting waste to wealth and produce some of their food while also taking care of their environment.

The facilitator instructing the participants

During the first session, titled “Sustainable Food Production”, the participants learned the importance of producing some of their own food and the benefits of food production without harming the environment. They were taught how to set up a backyard garden and were also given seedlings for practical application.

Slide presentation on Sustainable Food Production

In the second session, the children learned how to upcycle waste papers, cardboard, and cartons to create valuable household items, such as flower vases. Working in groups, it was fascinating to see the children display teamwork and creativity, resulting in beautiful crafts.

Participants displaying their crafts

We would like to extend our appreciation to all our facilitators, volunteers, and teachers for their invaluable contributions over the past few days. We look forward to an equally enriching conclusion to the Summer Camp Programme tomorrow.
