Abdul Tashiu

Administrator & Project Coordinator, Abuja

Abdul Tashiu joins the ChiYoWo Empowerment Initiative as a Project Coordinator in Abuja. It is a post he ismgt_abdulpics ideally suited for since he has had much experience initiating and supporting several community development programmes in Abuja FCT, Zangon Kataf and Kagarko.

Mr Tashiu is formally trained in Information and Communication Technology, holding a Diploma in Computer Studies from the Fantsuam Foundation. It was through that organization’s Gaiya National Volunteer Programs that he was also trained as a volunteer manager.

He believes that access to education is a high priority and has had a hand in designing and building classrooms. He has lobbied for and obtained donations of “books and other learning materials” to facilitate learning opportunities among internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Mr. Tashiu has also assisted with adult ICT training at IDPs Camp Area 1 with the support of the NGO Youth Initiative for Sustainable Human Development in Africa (YiSHDA).

Mr Tashiu remains undaunted by a lack of funds and the resultant inability to move about as freely as he would like. He works assiduously where he can, building tents and engaging the children in IDPs camps in games to help them better cope with their situation.

Mr Tashiu has seen first-hand the obstacles that IDPs face and has spent the last seven years volunteering for their benefit. He views volunteerism as “taskful, challenging and interesting” and he has focused his attention on helping even when the conditions are “very poor and uncertain”. His in-depth knowledge of IDPs’ needs and challenges is a real asset to ChiYoWo’s endeavours.
